however to ensure accurate planning we are requesting ONLINE REGISTRATION!
A new web page devoted to the Retreat includes downloadable fliers, a detailed program
with symposia summaries, keynote speaker biosketch, poster submission info, and registration
link.
Reminder: Poster Applications Due Monday March 3rd
Retreat Poster submission deadline is Monday March 3. Our Poster session will be held Monday March 24th from 3 - 6 PM in the U Guest House Ballroom. All student submissions will be entered into the judging for awards! www.aging.utah.edu/2014retreat

The Center on Aging is pleased to recognize two notable member achievements!
Katherine Supiano, PhD, LCSW, FT received funding from the Alzheimer’s Association for her studies on grief experiences
of caregivers for patients who had dementia. On Feb. 9th, the Deseret News published
a feature story about Dr. Supiano's award. Read it here:

Katarina Friberg Felsted, MS - Co-director of the College of Nursing's Gerontology Interdisciplinary Program has
been named as an ambassador to The Gerontological Society of America (GSA). She will
serve a one-year term representing our University. The GSA Ambassador Program aims
to spread awareness of the field of aging as well as serve as a networking tool linking
individuals with an interest in gerontology from all over the country and abroad. Congratulations,
Katarina!
New Fellows
We are pleased to introduce two new Geriatric Medicine Fellows; Michelle Keown and Erika Noonan. They will begin their one-year fellowship program in July.
Michelle Keown began her education with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Minor in Dance
from the University of South Carolina Honors College in Columbia, South Carolina;
graduating Magna Cum Laude in May 2004. She continued to excel in academics, earning
a Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University in May 2007 and graduating from
the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine-University of North Texas Health Science
Center in Fort Worth, Texas with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in May 2011. She
matched at Exempla St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver, CO for Internal Medicine and is
very excited to begin her Fellowship in Geriatrics. Michelle is also an avid athlete
and international traveler who ran the Dallas White Rock Half Marathon in 2009 and
loves to cycle and dance in her spare time.
Erika Noonan was born and raised in Salt Lake City. A graduate of Highland High, she received
her undergraduate degree at Utah State University majoring in nutrition science. She
went to medical school at Saint Louis University then returned to Utah to complete
a residency in family medicine at the Utah Valley Family Medicine Residency in Provo.
Erika has always taken a special interest in nutrition and with her husband working
in the financial side of medicine, has more recently become interested in practices
that financially benefit patients and systems. Erika is excited to further her education
in geriatric medicine. She lives in Pleasant Grove with her husband and two energetic
children. She enjoys running, cooking, and enjoying the outdoors.
