Utah Commission on Aging
Commission quarterly meeting is set for Aug 9, 2018 at the Bateman Horne Education
Center. Updates on current initiatives and strategic updates from the research, public
policy, and community resource committees will be discussed. The three committees
are holding virtual meetings the last week of July and first week of August. The chairs
of the committees are as follows: Jackie Eaton, Research; Alan Ormsby Public Policy;
Cindy Turnquist, Community Resources. Janice Evans continues to chair the communications
coordinating efforts.
Executive Director Ence and Utah Legal Services Director, Tanta Lisa Clayton, presented
updates of the DOJ grant work and the uniform Power of Attorney document to the U4A
monthly meeting in Logan Utah. U4A is spreading the word helping UCOA find victim
stories and contributing input for our website and podcast series. We are casting
a wide net to seek financial fraud stories and encourage readers to contact us with
any possible leads.
Ence and Evans spent a day in July at the Utah Native American Heritage conference
at UVU in Orem, Utah meeting with leaders and hearing stories of tribal members on
healthcare and aging services challenges as well as developing contacts to assist
with our financial exploitation project.
Ence participated in the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Chicago
where Drs. Kathie and Mark Supiano were involved in presentations. Ence, along with
UCOA partners Sally Aerts (UDOH), Marianne Christensen (SLCo), and Kristy Cottrell
(Davis Co.) presented on our Falls Prevention Alliance at the N4A conference also
held in Chicago the following week.
Alzheimer’s Council has rolled out its plan for the upcoming fiscal year as a recipient
of additional state monies enabling more caregiver and awareness workshops across
the state. The Falls Prevention Alliance is also creating an operational structure
and steering committee for future projects that will likely be under the umbrella
of the UCOA.

About our Logo
The bristlecone pine tree (Pinus longaeva) - the earth’s oldest inhabitant with a
life span of almost 5,000 years - is found only in Utah and five other western states.
Its extraordinary longevity and ability to adapt and survive in extremely harsh environmental
conditions above 10,000 feet embodies the investigative spirit and mission of the
Utah Center on Aging.
Best,
