Check Out The Utah Community Data Project
UCDP is building an information system and research program that will uncover insights into Utah’s changing communities and provide topical analyses on underlying trends. With the help of the DESB IT group, a suite of open source on-line analytic processing and visualization tools, including Weave, has been developed. At present there are 125 Weave visualizations. While many are basic demographics (including age, race and ethnicity), health outcome data from the Department of Health are also available. They have also developed a 2000 to 2010 tract level change data set so that changes can be examined over a ten year period. A screen shot illustration that represents the change in the Salt Lake County geriatric population in this time frame is below. Note that this powerful dynamic tool can focus in on specific age groups (the slider at the top selects 65-74, 75-84 and > 85 years) as well as zooming in on individual census tracks.
UCDP will continue to collect, store, and disseminate an ever-expanding collection of community data in an online system that will be rich in customized cross-tabulations, dynamic data visualizations, and interactive geospatial representations. Their work program includes demographic metrics as well as community indicators tracking economic stability, educational equity, health disparities, affordable housing opportunities, and other topics. We encourage you to visit the UCDP site and explore the wealth of data relevant to Utah’s rapidly changing aging population. Visit The Utah Community Data Project at www.ucdp.utah.edu/
